Art from Jose Luis Calzada

Self-taught Jose Luis  learned to paint by constant practice over a quarter century. He has a dreamy and evocative style, which is perceived as a waning moon constant, which provides the backdrop for his subliminal characters.

In 1963 he exhibited for the first time in Durango and after a while away from the arts to study Political Science and Literature in 1980 resumed painting to exhibit collectively at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City.

He has taught at the Universidad Juarez del Estado de Durango (UJED) and his work encompasses the promotion and dissemination of culture in municipal and state administration. In 2002 he received an honorable mention in the catalog of Illustrators for Children and Youth Publications CONACULTA.
